What a week it’s been thus far my good sirs and madams. There have been such copious amounts of mixed blessings fraught with moments of extreme goodness, benevolent complications, unnecessary drama, and the occasional drunken sage.
We had a hell of a party Saturday for a hell of a man. A good shaman by the name of Chris Cooper who has touched and influenced Jarrod and I over the past year we have known him. In fact he has touched the lives of every person that I call friend. A man of high principles and low hubris nobody I know deserved the surprise bash we all put on for his birthday Saturday. And a hell of a time it was.
We started the night with a bit of glad handing and a musical set by the Rhythm Stitches. We are a family of ONE and Chris is our Pater Noster so there were plenty of things to be said. There are so many of us that have come together to march under his banner in the name of Global and Local change, our motto is “Think Globally, Act Locally” and nobody embodies that more than Chris who sinks his time constantly into cause after cause trying to make a difference in his community and the world at large. We started the good man on some free drinks and true to the biblical tradition of Purim he fulfilled the Jewish command to inebriate himself.
We had great times and continued the music with Zac McFadden and the Speak Easy Band, Me and Drew’s Moment of Clarity, and then as a final and complete surprise for their biggest fan the members of Davenporte came together and played a hell of a set for all good people there. Dirk, Johnny, Adam, and Kyle really topped the night with that because short of Bono himself showing up that was the best present anyone could get Mr. Cooper. Many many thanks.
None of it would have happened without the incomparable Jennifer Bryce who orchestrated the whole thing. I’d also like to thank our fellow co-conspirators who were instrumental in making everything come together: Puma, Drew Willison, Nancy Stout, Amanda Cooper, Mike Shorte, and all the bands and other helpers that made the whole thing go off so damn well. It will be a hell of a party to top next year.
And once again a very happy birthday to Mr. Chris Cooper, the Wizard of our Oz, the beating heart of our cause, and the global desire to burn the flaws. Namaste my friend.
