One Night Only Back on Schedule
Monday, March 17th, 2008
Here we are again dear reader. And J. J. Sunshine’s is back on schedule.
And as part of that here I am to offer the first post of the week. Trouble is my mind is stuck in Neutral. I got called into work at 3:30 on Saturday and didn’t return home till 8:30am this morning. Slept away the day and here I am haggard and worn and barely able to form a cohesive thought. Let’s see how this goes.
All vocational complications aside it was a good week, with some moments of just superkickass. The week to come promises good things, good times, and good people for the sake of good people. Here’s to hoping it all goes off without a hitch.
Friday was a great charge to my battery. We took in a new open mic here in town. It wasn’t the event itself that was so awesome merely the reminder that sometimes less is more. We had a very small group of three by nights end and it was everything it needed to be. We have had a lot of huge outings lately with group number pushing the 20’s and while it’s a lot of fun its not really the intellectual charge it could be, cause you just floating and flitting about and splitting your time among everyone you just don’t get to have anything too deep in the mix. The times I really get a charge are the ones where it get quiet and you’ve got 2-3 good folk to converse with. Friday was that to a tee, and I think we all needed it.
Reflecting upon this I have a moment of flush thankfulness. In the game of friends I have beaten the odds and taken the house to the cleaners. It is a regard I am blessed in. That word friend can mean a lot of things, and like the word love can get over used to where it just doesn’t mean as much as it once did. We all have buddies, acquaintances, and various social entanglements of different degrees. But I’m of the opinion that finding friends, in the truest sense of that word, is rare. And if you have one true friend you are fortunate, if you have more you are extremely lucky. I’m not talking about the people you can go drinking with, the people you can hang out with. I’m talking about the true friends, the ones that know more about you than your family, because in a way they are your family. I’m talking about the inner circle.
My circle feels complete. I feel as though the true friends I have now have completed a sort of circuit that feeds my cities with all the energy they will ever need to run. We are each so different in our own ways, and yet very much the same in others, ever the complement and the counterpoint to one another. They are ever my confidants and counselors and I would be lost sometimes without each of their unique perspectives. Whether the troubles of the day are met with a well thought out philosophical dissertation or the simplest well placed shush, it always helps.
To be continued…
