One Night Only 017
Monday, March 10th, 2008
An interesting weekend our dear friends and readers. We were hit with a blizzard and almost buried. But life soldiers on in the storm, this is a lesson we always observe.
Saturday Morning Jarrod was blessed with a newborn baby girl who was subsequently dubbed Natalie Grace DePugh (Hope I spelled it right). Baby and mom are doing fine, and big brother is ecstatic and already getting protective.
The arrival of a child into our fold is always an occasion to be marked. Though it will happen less and less as time goes by and we fill our family dance card with the proper number allotted. But it is always an occasion that brings us together, sometimes it is a watershed moment in all our lives, an inciting event to great things, great change, or just the finding of things that were missed. Something about the arrival of a new life to one of your near and dear clears everyone’s heads for a moment and puts things in perspective. So I sit awash in a moment of clarity, boon of the newborns wake.
I wanted to say something here. This new life was born to people I hold in the highest regard. And I’m the guy with all the big words, so I suppose I must spin some verse for the occasion. So this is for Jarrod, Jen, Kyle, and most of all little Natalie….
Points of Light

A new star lights the sky
Illuminate the darkest place
The answer to the question why
Is written on her tiny face
Brother don’t you fret
Brother don’t you fear
The only love we can’t forget
Is in the newborn tear.
Sleep sound tonight my friend
Cause every fence will mend
You know she’ll shine so bright
Among the points of light
Bright star born of brightest stars
You’ll know that you are dear
Beyond the sight of all the scars
Only words of love you’ll hear
Sister don’t you cry
Sister don’t despair
You’ll find the wings to fly
Were always waiting there.
Sleep sound tonight my friend
Cause every fence will mend
You know she’ll shine so bright
Among the points of light
Wish upon her eyes tonight
Feel comfort in her glow
Know that it’ll be alright
Stars care not how the wind blows
Little man don’t you wonder
Little man hold on to love
Don’t you fear the roll of thunder
Keep your eyes on what’s above
Sleep sound tonight my friend
Cause every fence will mend
You know she’ll shine so bright
Among the points of light
